In a field stood a little house: a yellow window, blue doors, smoke curling up — puff-puff.

A little grey mouse came running, gave a flick of her tail: “Who lives in the little house?” No one answered. The mouse went in and sang: “In the little house it’s warm and cosy — together it’s merry!”

Up hopped a green frog: hop-skip, plop with her knee in the grass. “Let me in, little mouse!” — “Come in!” And now the two of them sing: “In the little house it’s warm and cosy — together it’s merry!”

Up skipped a white hare, long ears, soft paws. “Knock-knock! May I join you?” — “You may!” The hare brought a carrot, the frog a leaf, the mouse a grain.

In came a hedgehog quietly, pink nose, prickly back. He set a little mushroom by the door. The little house grew snug, but oh so warm.

The animals sat in a circle and blew on their tea: foo-foo. And they sang once more: “In the little house it’s warm and cosy — together it’s merry!” Outside a little star twinkled, and in the house everyone fell asleep under a soft blanket.
